The Event
Petrosains, the Science Discovery Centre based in Suria KLCC has hosted various Petrosains Science Festivals over seven years. The festival held in 2019 was the fourth edition that Big Bash Media has worked with Petrosains, with the first three being in 2014, 2016 and 2018.
The Challenge
Running the event for 4 years, Big Bash always takes the opportunity to get their creative caps on and continually reinvent the festival. Innovation was always a key aspect in every theme and we never missed an opportunity to showcase the infinite possibilities of science in the future.
There have been lots of unique technology showcased or custom built for the Festival alone over the years including those that have received international recognition and awards. This has been the key factor for returning audiences and at the heart of every festival.
Strategic Thought
In order to highlight the theme of the festival, the core strategic thought throughout the whole process of ideation was to bring in content that would be both relevant and exciting to the public.
RoboThespian, a humanoid robot, was suggested to be incorporated into the festival to act as a co-emcee in the event as a creative way to capture the audience’s attention.
Social Media and word of mouth were key avenues to promote the event. Mainstream advertising was not the best way to push the event as it went against the brand identity.
Travelling Roadshows A travelling roadshow is also part of the pre event marketing. Previous roadshows included VR Oil Rigs that was also showcased in Beijing, the door to the future which toured universities and the latest acrobatic cheer squad / PSF marching band that hit public parks.
The Technology was always a key aspect with our engineers and marketing team coming up with some funky solutions including mimicing robots, automated omelette makers, 360 projected domes, floating screens, VR and AR experiences and much more.
